Samsung still has number one smartphone market

Samsung is perhaps not yet out of the woods, but it is nonetheless the king of the smartphone, at least if we think in units sold. This is highlighted by the latest results shared the IDC and corresponding to the second quarter of this year.

Of the 337.2 million smartphones sold allegedly for builders during this quarter, the South Korean had sold no less than 73.2 million.

Its market share is thus 21.7%. But reflection of the difficulties that knows the business, while other manufacturers of top 5 grew, Samsung saw its sales fall by 2.3% compared to the same period the previous year.

Behind Samsung, there is Apple, which sold 47.5 million mobile, Huawei, which sold 29.9 million mobile, Xiaomi, which sold 17.9 million mobile and Lenovo (+ Motorola) who has sold 16.2 million. Other manufacturers have sold a total of 152.5 million smartphones, which corresponds to a market share of 47.1%.

However, it should be remembered that if Samsung sells more smartphones than Apple, the Cupertino company is much more profitable since according to Canaccord Genuity, Apple would achieve 92% of total profits in this market. Samsung does realize that 15% and some other manufacturers do not profit at all or realize negative profits.

Otherwise, the market for smartwatch, Apple is number one . Indeed, with Apple Watch, the Cupertino would have a share of 75%, against 7.5% for Samsung.
