What is the lifespan of an Apple device?

Three years, that's lifespan of an iPhone by the Cupertino, who wanted to be clear on the issue of planned obsolescence of its smartphones.

The debate on the planned obsolescence of products regularly returns to the front of the stage. This is indeed an important issue in a world where raw materials are depleted year after year and in a world where pollution is increasing. Apple plays the card of transparency and reveals all data on its products.

lifespan of apple devices

Environment: 3 years of life for an iPhone, 4 for a MacBook

The firm Apple said: "Concerning the years of use, based on the first-time buyer, they are about four years for devices on OS X and tvOS and three years for devices with iOS and WatchOS". It must be understood that a MacBook and Apple TV have a normal lifespan of 4 years and the connected watch Apple Watch and iPhone have a shorter life period of about 3 years.

This does not, of course, mean that after three years, to the day that your smartphone will fail, but that's the average life of all the components needed to manufacture the brand appliances. Apple wants to show their credentials on this subject because the company is very involved in environmental issues and therefore wishes to know precisely the ecological impact of its products. The company has posted a FAQ to answer users' questions on the topic.

The decision comes after the Cupertino launched an operation in collaboration with the World Wide Fund for Nature to raise funds to be offered at the famous NGO WWF. The operation in question is being called "Apps for Earth" and it will be running from April 14 to 24. It is to download partner applications and money received during this period will be donated to WWF.
