Bing will favor mobile sites on search results for smartphones. Its been a few weeks now, the new update of the Google search engine algorithm caused a little shake on the web.
Since April 21, Google has used the compatibility of web pages with mobile screens as a signal in ranking them on search results on smartphones. The Mountain View company hopes that this change will have a significant impact on search results.
Anyway, Google is not alone in wanting to encourage webmasters to move from a site only optimized for a computer screen to a site that will be also on mobile. Indeed, Microsoft has in turn announced that its Bing search engine will be favorable to the sites compatible with mobile (eg in responsive design).
Although the algorithms of Bing and Google Search are not the same, the ideas are the same: to offer in the search results pages that will be easy to navigate for mobile users.
And while that does not make pleasure to all publishers, it is clearly a necessity, given the growth of the mobile Internet traffic (and therefore the search via smartphones).
