Harry Potter's magical map is a reality now, and a real threat to privacy of every Facebook user. Its called Marauders Map. A student from Harvard has developed a Google Chrome extension that allows you to monitor the movements of his friends through Facebook Messenger.
We know that most web services want your personal data. Facebook Messenger is expected to join this very exclusive clan from a student Harvard has embarked on the development of a Chrome extension to precisely geolocate contacts without the latter necessarily share their location with you.
Watch your friends with Marauder's Map
The name of the extension developed by Aran Khanna, computer student, speaks volumes about its operation since it calls "Marauders Map" in reference to the map allowing Harry Potter to observe directly the position of the occupants Hogwarts.
It all starts the moment Aran Khanna discovered rummaging through the code Facebook Messenger automatically transmitted the location data of all messages. Rather precise data since they allow the caller to locate the nearest meter. The student decides to "have some fun" program and an extension for Chrome.
The stalkers can play to their heart's content
Most disturbing in this story is that it is not necessary to be Facebook friends with the person you want stalker. Aran Khanna was able to monitor the location of a friend of her brother who was participating in a group conversation. The young brain was amazingly able to determine the precise schedule of the person in it for several days.
The extension was soon met a nice success which earned him some operational problems because it still requires a lot of server resources. Anyway, Marauders Map should no longer provide a long location data because Facebook would have already addressed the issue. Aran Khanna his side will begin an internship with the teams of the social network Mark Zuckerberg from next month.
